Frequently Asked Questions

What is a HEIC file?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apple's default photo format, introduced in iOS 11. It typically produces photos that are about half the size of JPEG at similar quality. While it's great for saving iPhone storage, HEIC isn't supported natively on Windows or most web platforms.

What's the difference between HEIC and HEIF?

HEIF (High Efficiency Image Format) is the container format; HEIC is the file extension Apple uses for HEIF images encoded with the HEVC codec. For practical purposes they are the same — the converter handles both .heic and .heif files.

Will converting HEIC to JPG reduce quality?

JPG uses lossy compression so there is a very small quality reduction, but at our default quality setting (85/100) the output is visually indistinguishable from the original for everyday use. For zero-loss conversion, choose PNG or TIFF instead.

Which output format should I choose?

JPG — best for sharing, email, and print (universally supported). PNG — lossless, great for screenshots and images that need transparency. WebP — smaller than JPG, ideal for web use. AVIF — next-gen format, excellent compression in modern browsers. TIFF — professional/archival use, largest file size.

Is my photo kept private?

Yes. Your photo and the converted output are automatically deleted from our servers within 60 minutes. We never store, sell, or analyse your photos.

Is this HEIC converter really free?

Yes — no account, no watermarks, no subscription. Upload your HEIC photo, pick a format, and download the result.
