This policy explains what data MediaFormatter collects, how we use cookies and ads, which third-party services we rely on, and the rights you have under the GDPR. This is placeholder content pending final review before launch.

What data we collect

We collect the minimum data needed to run the service:

  • Account data — your email address (and optional display name) if you create an account.
  • Usage data — anonymous analytics about which tools are used and how the service performs.
  • IP address — used transiently for rate limiting and abuse prevention. We store a hashed form, not your raw IP.
  • Uploaded files — processed only to perform the conversion you request, then automatically deleted (see Data retention).

How we use cookies

We use cookies for two purposes:

  • Session cookies — essential cookies that keep you signed in and operate the service.
  • Advertising cookies (Google AdSense) — used to show ads to free and anonymous users. These load only after you accept the cookie consent banner. Paid (Pro and Business) users never see ads.

You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing your browser storage, and you can opt out of personalised advertising via Google’s ad settings.

Third-party services

We share the minimum necessary data with these processors:

  • Google AdSense — serves advertisements to free/anonymous users who have accepted consent.
  • Stripe — processes subscription payments for Pro and Business plans. Card details are handled by Stripe and never touch our servers.
  • Google OAuth — lets you sign in with your Google account. We receive your email and basic profile only.

Data retention

Uploaded files and their converted outputs are automatically deleted within 60 minutes. We never store, sell, or analyse your media. Server logs are retained for a short period for security and debugging.

Your rights (GDPR)

If you are in the EU/EEA, you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Erasure — request that we delete your account and associated data.
  • Portability — receive your data in a portable, machine-readable format.
