How to Change Video Speed Online — 3 Steps

Pick a speed preset, upload your video, and download the result — processed server-side with FFmpeg's setpts and atempo filters.

  1. Upload your video

Select any MP4, WebM, MKV, MOV, AVI, FLV, or WMV file up to 100 MB. No account required — your file goes directly to the processor.

  2. Choose a speed preset

Select a slow motion speed (0.25×, 0.5×, 0.75×) to stretch the video, or a fast-forward speed (1.5×, 2×, 4×) to compress it. Audio pitch is corrected automatically at all speeds.

  3. Download your video

Click Change speed and download the MP4 as soon as it is ready. The output is compatible with every platform, editor, and device.

Common Video Speed Change Use Cases

Speed adjustments are one of the most frequently requested edits for social media, tutorials, and sports footage.

0.5×Slow down sports highlights to analyse form, technique, or a key moment
0.25×Create dramatic super slow motion from action footage for social media reels
Speed up a long tutorial or lecture recording for a faster-paced viewing version
Compress a timelapse or process video — construction, cooking, art — into a short clip
1.5×Shorten a screen recording to meet a platform's time limit without hard cuts
0.75×Slightly slow a reaction or reveal moment for emphasis without obvious slow motion

Frequently Asked Questions

Does audio pitch stay correct when I change speed?

Yes. The audio is processed with FFmpeg's atempo filter, which adjusts playback speed while preserving the original pitch. Without this, speech and music would sound chipmunk-fast at 2× or unnaturally deep at 0.5×. The atempo filter corrects for this automatically at all supported speeds.

Why does my slow motion look choppy?

This tool changes the playback speed of existing frames — it does not generate new in-between frames. For smooth slow motion at 0.25×, your source video needs to have been recorded at a high frame rate (120 fps or 240 fps). If your source is 30 fps and you apply 0.25× speed, the output plays at roughly 7.5 fps — which appears choppy. For cinematic slow motion, use a phone's dedicated slo-mo mode before uploading.

How does this affect video duration and file size?

Speeding up a video shortens its duration proportionally — a 2-minute video at 2× becomes a 1-minute video, and the file size roughly halves. Slowing down extends the duration — a 2-minute video at 0.5× becomes a 4-minute video with roughly double the file size.

Can I apply a custom speed multiplier?

Currently the tool offers six preset speeds: 0.25×, 0.5×, 0.75×, 1.5×, 2×, and 4×. Custom multipliers are not available in the online tool — for arbitrary speeds, a desktop tool like FFmpeg CLI, DaVinci Resolve, or Adobe Premiere Pro gives full control.

Is my video kept private?

Yes. Your uploaded video and the processed output are automatically deleted from our servers within 60 minutes. We never store, sell, or analyse your content.

Is this tool completely free?

Yes — no account, no watermarks, no subscription required. Upload, choose a speed, and download.
