Frequently Asked Questions
What size should a YouTube thumbnail be?
YouTube recommends 1280×720 pixels (16:9) at under 2 MB. Upload in JPG format. If your video is 1080p, the extracted frame will already be the correct resolution.
How do I find the right timestamp for my thumbnail?
Open your video in any media player (VLC, QuickTime, or browser) and note the timecode of the frame you want. Enter it as HH:MM:SS — for example, a frame at 1 minute and 30 seconds is 00:01:30.
Should I use JPG or PNG for my thumbnail?
Use JPG for YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and most social platforms — it produces smaller files at excellent quality. Use PNG only if you need transparent areas or are overlaying text/graphics in an image editor.
Can I upload extracted thumbnails to YouTube?
Yes. Go to YouTube Studio → Videos → select your video → Details → Custom thumbnail → Upload file. Ensure the thumbnail represents the video content as required by YouTube's thumbnail policies.
Is my video kept private?
Yes. Your video and extracted thumbnail are automatically deleted within 60 minutes. We never store or analyse your content.
